Desert oasis feels like an understatement for this outdoor design project. At Blue Copper Design, we aim to create spaces we genuinely feel inspired by, and the Blaker Project delivered on every level. Our clients already had a strong foundation in place with desert hardscape, mature landscaping, and even a few adorable animals. They asked us to transform the backyard into a functional, beautiful outdoor living space that could support daily life, entertaining, and relaxation year round.

From the beginning, we approached this Arizona backyard design with intention and strategy. Rather than creating one oversized patio, we designed four distinct outdoor entertaining zones. This layout allows the space to function more like an extension of the home, offering flexibility for gatherings, quiet moments, and everyday use. Each zone serves a purpose while still feeling visually connected to the rest of the yard. As a result, the backyard supports everything from casual lounging to larger social events with ease.

Color played a major role in shaping the overall aesthetic. We leaned into our signature palette of blues and coppers to ground the design while allowing the surrounding desert greenery to shine. The contrast between the modern outdoor furniture and the organic landscape creates a balanced, calming environment. The greenery softens the hardscape while the furniture adds structure and refinement.

Because this project sits in the heart of Arizona, durability mattered just as much as beauty. We selected high quality performance fabrics designed to withstand intense sun exposure and fluctuating temperatures. These materials also provide peace of mind for a household shared with chickens and the family dog, Lulu. The result is an outdoor space that feels elevated but never precious.

One of the most surprising aspects of this project is how secluded it feels. Although the home is located in Gilbert Arizona, the combination of lush foliage, thoughtful furniture placement, and layered textures creates a sense of privacy and calm. The backyard feels like a retreat, offering a peaceful energy that makes it easy to forget the surrounding city.

Outdoor living spaces can dramatically expand how a home functions, especially in climates like Arizona. When designed intentionally, a backyard becomes an additional living area rather than an afterthought. This project highlights how embracing the natural beauty of the desert while layering in modern design can create a backyard oasis that feels both practical and inspiring year round.
