We are honored to have been able to work with Project 34 to provide a gorgeous bathroom remodel to a well deserving client. Project 34 is a non profit organization with the goal of improving the quality of life to those with spinal cord injuries. Inspired by Cory Hahn’s personal journey, Project 34 aims to ease stress and burdens associated with life after injury. We are grateful and excited to have a partnership with them on this project.
Our South Mountain project focused on creating a safe and functional bathroom for our client living with a spinal cord injury. Though the existing bathroom was spacious, the features were not able to be used by someone living with paralysis. This bathroom actually had the space planning in the right spots so we were able to do complete a non invasive renovation by keeping the existing layout and adding in barrier free elements.
This accessible bathroom design draws inspiration from a wet room layout that combines the tub and shower into one cohesive space. Our client relied on baths in the previous layout because it offered the only accessible bathing option. We preserved the bathtub while adding a curbless shower to expand safety and independence. A twelve inch transfer ledge and strategically placed grab bar support easier and more confident tub transfers. The spacious shower includes a handheld shower head and integrated product ledge, giving the client flexible and functional bathing options.
By reconfiguring the vanity layout, we created additional usable storage and incorporated roll under sinks for improved accessibility. A concrete countertop introduces a rugged, tactile contrast against refined cabinetry. Bold tile with strong linear patterns anchors the design and adds visual impact. The palette honors the home’s warm tones while layering in modern grays and balanced cooler neutrals.
We extend sincere thanks to our sponsors and partners who helped bring this barrier free bathroom renovation to life. Their support made it possible to deliver a safe, functional, and beautiful accessible bathroom. We remain deeply grateful to collaborate with those committed to advancing accessibility and inclusive design, one home at a time.
